Cupidopsis cissus

The Common Meadow Blue. This was found at Cumberland. It is a female, the male has more blue on the upper side. I had  done a previous post on this butterfly which has the male. Compare it with its cousin C. jobates.
 

Gegenes sp.

There are two species of Gegenes here: G. niso and G. hottentota. The females are practically identical, the males only different in their sex brands on the upper side.
The hair pencils are seen in this photograph. These are used in courtship both for display and to disperse pheremones.
 

Butterfly party

All on a Combretum molle. These were all photographed at the same time on the one tree at Cumberland Nature Reserve.
From top down: Amauris albimaculata, Belenois creona male then female, Teracolus eris: 2 males then a female. In the background of the last the yellow butterfly is a Dixeia pigea.
Distracted, I suddenly realised that I was one step away from a 200 foot sheer drop down the krans.
Below a picture of the cliff, then a twig of the Combretum with the attractive winged seeds.

Cassionympha cassius

Zenonia zeno

Another Hesperid: the Orange-spotted Skipper or Orange-spotted Hopper. This one is easier to identify compared with most Hesperids. It was quite common in our garden and the NBG.
